NBC — Russell Wilson and the Denver Broncos (1-1) host Jimmy Garoppolo and the San Francisco 49ers (1-1) on the Week 3 edition of NBC’s Sunday Night Football.
Coverage begins at 5:00 pm with Football Night in America, followed by a 6:20 pm kick-off from Empower Field at Mile High in Denver, Colorado on KSL TV, Peacock and Universo.
In Wilson’s home debut in Denver last Sunday, the Broncos defeated the Texans 16-9. He passed for 219 yards and a touchdown and wide receiver Courtland Sutton had seven receptions for 122 yards in the win. Wilson is 16-4 against the 49ers in the regular season and has thrown more touchdown passes against San Francisco (36) than any other team.
San Francisco beat Seattle at home, 27-7, in Week 2. Garoppolo, who entered the game after Trey Lance suffered an ankle injury, threw for 154 yards and a touchdown and added a rushing score. Garoppolo owns a 31-14 record as the 49ers’ starting quarterback, leading the team to two NFC Championship Games and one Super Bowl. Kyle Shanahan will make his first visit as head coach to Denver, where he played wide receiver at Cherry Creek High School. His father, Mike Shanahan, spent 14 years as the Broncos’ head coach, winning back-to-back Super Bowls.
San Francisco and Denver will meet for the 16th time on Sunday, with the 49ers holding an 8-7 lead in the all-time series (including the postseason). The SNF matchup will mark the first meeting between the teams since Week 14 in 2018, which the 49ers won 20-14. The last matchup between the 49ers and Broncos in Denver (October 19, 2014) was also on Sunday Night Football and featured Peyton Manning throwing four touchdown passes to become the NFL’s all-time leader in touchdown passes .
