The song of the week breaks down and talks about the song we can’t get out of our heads every week. Find these songs and more in our playlist of the best Spotify songs. For our new favorites from emerging artists, check out our Spotify New Sounds playlist. This week, GloRilla and Cardi B join forces for a hard-hitting collaboration.
Cardi B has always been a generous contributor, and now she’s jumped into the remix of Memphis rapper GloRilla’s hard-hitting song “Tomorrow.” The two artists are a natural fit, with aggressive rap styles and the ability to rip sparse beats based solely on waffle and charisma.
Produced by frequent GloRilla collaborator Macaroni Toni, “Tomorrow 2” brings out the best of both worlds. GloRilla, who broke out with her viral hit “FNF (Let’s Go)” earlier this year, released the original as her first release after signing to Yo Gotti’s CMG label. On the track, she comes up with a lyric about keeping her inner circle close after gaining fame, but staying “a little stuck”.
As someone who still gets into trouble from time to time, Cardi can clearly relate and maintains the same energy with her verse. Putting aside the frustration that inspired her to do “Why am I trending?” merch, the Bronx native has some sharp words for an anonymous hater: “I stay in her head, I got condos in that bitch head/She say she don’t fuck with me, who said you can, ho?” Looks like your fight with a certain rapper from Queens isn’t cooling off anytime soon.
Keeping it more positive, Cardi acknowledges another vibrant star, Bronx rapper Ice Spice, when she sings, “This black is a munch and he’s gonna eat me like a mango.” Hopefully, that means we’ll soon have a remix of Ice Spice’s viral hit “Munch (Feelin’ U)”.
