Actors have always retired and not retired. Daniel Day-Lewis and Audrey Hepburn come to mind when you think of actors who hung up everything, only to return a few years later. But no one expected that Cameron Diaz would initially retire, let alone return nearly a decade later.
After eight years away from the camera, Diaz is ready to return in the next Netflix movie. back in action. He will co-star with Jamie Foxx in the film in which Seth Gordon directs from a script by Brendan O’Brien.
This film marks her first role since 2014 annie, which also starred Foxx. He took a break from the spotlight, initially stating that he “got tired of traveling to film”. The gap soon turned into an eight-year hiatus, which he initially said was his retirement from film.
In early 2022, Diaz made a huge impact as a guest judge on RuPaul’s Drag Race, which marked his first significant appearance in eight years. Shortly after, it was confirmed that she would star back in action. During a recent interview on the show tonightDiaz talked about what drew her to this project and how it felt to get back into the swing of things.
“I was like, well guys, what’s the title of this? and they were like back in action. I was like, ouch! I can really feel very connected to this character already… It’s a bit of muscle memory; You know what I want to say? I did that for so long; it’s kind of like the process: I just fell back into it. But he feels a little bit different,” Diaz says.
He adds that his co-star Jamie Foxx also played a big part in his comeback. The two first co-starred in 1999. any sundayhe then re-teamed for his last film before retiring in 2014 annie.
“The last movie I did was annie with Jamie, so the first movie that comes back is this movie with Jamie,” adds Diaz. She continues, “He’s great, he’s so easy going, he’s so professional, he’s so talented. And just being able to work with him, it’s going to be a lot of fun.”
