Atlanta Soundtrack: New Algiers Song Starbenders;  more Vintage Cat Power

Algiers | “Bite Back (with billy woods and Backxwash)”

One of the best parts of listening to this album Algiers opus is that it takes you on a journey that transcends genre and any expectations you may have based on your mostly punk past. Pure and simple, this collaboration with metal-inspired Backxwash and New York’s billy woods ignites waves from the air, then defiantly dances in the ashes.

Founded in 2012, Algiers is made up of vocalist Franklin James Fisher, bassist Ryan Mahan, guitarist Lee Tesche, and drummer Matt Tong. The group made the cut at Riot Fest in Chicago and will embark on a major European tour beginning in February.

Cat Power | “He War”

Cat Power, or Charlyn Marie “Chan” Marshall, grew up in Atlanta, her early years steeped in a destructive darkness that often seeped into the city’s creative soul during the 1980s and ’90s. She said The Guardian in 2003, the year this song was released: “Everyone I loved in Atlanta was doing heroin and it was really horrible and gross, so I went to New York.”
